In May 2020, the British star actor Robert Pattison was the subject of a heated online debate. This is after he came out with claims that the requirement for actors to transform their physique and add slabs of muscles for movie roles, especially Hollywood blockbusters, was absurd.

Later in 2019, news broke that Robert Pattison was becoming R-bats in The Batman comic series. Nobody believed he was up to the task, maybe due to his previous comments and because he hadn’t secured a superhero status before. However, the actor delved into a transformational journey with serious workouts and dieting. When The Batman teaser was released, everybody was amazed, and no one doubted his capabilities again.

Over the years, the strong-jawed, athletic, and perfectly-toned actor has gained all the gritty that Batman fans have come to love. From the transcending and descending capabilities to the exquisite swagger and grandeur of Bruce Wayne, Pattison has become one of the most revered superheroes worldwide.

However, one thing that all fitness enthusiasts want to know is how Robert Pattison managed to shape up and transform into the iconic character in The Batman series. Obviously, it was his diet and workout regime, but before we delve into that, let’s understand a little history about Robert Pattison.

Who Is Robert Pattinson?

Robert Pattinson is a talented London-based actor and producer born on May 13, 1986. According to previous interviews, Pattinson agreed that he has not always been a fan of acting and theatrical expeditions. He was always passionate about music and even learned to play the guitar when he was only four.

Pattinson would later form a band known as Bad Girls, which he played as Bobby Dupea. Through his teenage years, he became one of the most enthralling performers, and that’s when he developed a liking for screen legends. When he turned 13, Robert’s father requested him to join a theater club known as Barnes Theater Company.

Robert Pattinson stayed for nearly two years without getting a play role. However, at the end of the second year, he got a no-talking part as a Cuban dancer in a stage production dubbed Guys and Dolls. In 2005, R-Pats got his first break in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The success of Harry Porter opened doors for Pattison, and he later became the world’s biggest teen sensation after playing a monster in Twilight.

In 2011, Pattinson started appearing in independent films such as Water for Elephants. Since then, Robert Pattinson has acted as a mentally-challenged robber in Good Time and the naïve simpleton gang member in The Rover. His breakthrough came in 2019 when he was chosen to don the dark cape and black suit in Matt Reeves’ film, The Batman.

Pattinson weighs around 165-175 pounds and stands 6 foot 1 inch tall. Now that we know a brief history of Robert Pattinson, let’s look at how this English actor, who has never held significant body mass in previous films like Twilight, transformed his physique and gained muscles.

Robert Pattinson Workout Regime

Pattinson had to pass through a strenuous and nerve-wracking workout routine to become the daredevil vanquishing superhero we see in The Batman. The British actor confessed that the first six weeks of the training were challenging, but he started enjoying the workouts after passing the sixth week.

Since the actor already had the shape and physique, his training integrated weight training, weight workouts, and boxing drills. This would ensure that he amassed some muscles and became flexible. The workout entre focus was functional training since this is what was lacking. The workout regime was divided into various sections, each designed to help improve his speed, mass, and flexibility to his already outstanding physique.

Pattinson confirmed that his workout routine entailed the following when he spoke to Health for Men.

  • Running 3 to 6 miles (5-10km) 3-4 times a week
  • Boxing after gym three to five times per week

Four Secrets of Robert Pattinson’s Workout Routine

Pattinson agrees that hard work and dedication are imperative if you want to achieve Batman’s physique and outlook. However, he attributes his transformation journey to various insights he discovered during training. These include

Working out in the morning

When Pattinson appeared on GQ for an interview, he revealed that most of his workouts were scheduled in the morning. Working out before getting into the set gave him a lasting energy boost throughout the day. More importantly, research indicates that morning workouts help burn more calories, improve metabolism and lower the risk of insulin resistance.

Giving the core more attention

Pattinson made sure that he worked on the core a lot because turning into Batman meant he had to do stunts that required core strength and flexibility. His workout regime’s core exercises included double crunches, dumbbell side beds, bicycle crunches, and superman’s exercises.

Outdoor workouts are the best

Pattinson confirmed that doing his exercises outdoors played a significant role in helping him stay focused and motivated at all times. From beach boxing and cardio exercises to running for 3 to 6 miles and taking relaxing strolls on the beach, the outdoor added some charms to Pattinson’s training.

Finding the perfect balance

Although Pattinson didn’t work out that much before Batman’s role, he decided to approach fitness from another perspective. Instead of training for every character that crops up, he decided to find a balance by ensuring that he stays in shape.

Pattinson Diet

Before he was named Dark Night for The Batman film, Robert Pattinson was notorious for his food choices. In interviews, he would joke that his favorite food was microwaved pasta layered with cheese, tomato sauce, and sugar sandwiched between a hamburger bun and cornflakes. Therefore when preparing for the Batman role, his nutritionist worked extremely hard to address the discrepancy.

His diet included many proteins to help increase muscle mass and lower unwanted fat deposits. Since Pattinson loved alcohol, he had to cut it down and reduce his fried food and processed meat consumption.

Pattinson Meal Plan

The meal plan for the Batman role contains six clean meals to be consumed every single day. They include;

  • Oatmeal
  • Banana
  • Hard-boiled egg
  • A glass of orange juice
  • A cup of green tea

Midmorning Snack

  • A tin of tuna
  • Four rice cakes topped with peanut butter

Pre-workout meal

  • Skinless chicken breast
  • Baked potato and mixed vegetables

  • A bowl of cottage cheese
  • Mixed fruit with oatmeal crackers

Afternoon snack

  • Sirloin steak
  • White rice
  • Mixed vegetables

Smoothie made with blueberries, banana, unsweetened almond milk, and protein powder.

On average, Robert Pattinson consumed about 2,797 calories, including 77 grams of fat, 204 grams of protein, and 329 grams of carbs. The best thing about the meal plan is that it’s cheap as it contains some proteins, carbs, and fats, and more importantly, it makes fill full faster.

However, one fact is that the superhero diet is not as exciting as the comic book depicts them. Pattinson said that he no longer fancies eating fish and lemon. One of the everyday staples for muscle building is fish because it packs a ton of proteins and is a rich source of fats. However, overconsumption of this food for years can be tedious.

Although Robert Pattison wasn’t a fan of eating healthy or working out at first, when The Batman role came knocking, he had to level up and work out like other superheroes. He trained, pushed diet boundaries, and persevered. And finally, he became the perfect fit for the role.

Final Verdict

Although Robert Pattinson’s comments about working out and eating healthy might have made him seem unfit for his role in The Batman, he surprised everyone when he did the exact opposite. The actor delved into months of serious training that involved cardio, military-style sand-carrying exercises, running, and even boxing.

Furthermore, he started following a strict diet with six meals to puck a punch and bulk up to fit the new role perfectly. Through rigorous training and dieting, Pattinson achieved something he thought was unattainable.

If you’re a fan of The Batman and want to try the Robert Pattinson workout routine and diet, you need to be hardworking, dedicated, and persevering. Like Pattinson, the first few weeks may be daunting and tiresome, but you’ll be glad once you start seeing the results.

You should be ready for military-style training, lots of cardio, and running. Also, you’ll need to cut alcohol intake and reduce consumption of fried foods and processed meats. You’ll never know if you can hack this diet and workout routine if you don’t try. Begin your fitness journey today, and let us know how you progress.
